insieme Switzerland is celebrating its 65th anniversary and will open the anniversary exhibition “And why do we need to change?” on December 4 at the Kornhausforum Bern. The exhibition uses personal accounts, archive material, a film, and artworks to tell the story of the changing everyday lives of people with intellectual disabilities and their families – and how self-determination is increasingly taking center stage.
The title comes from a question asked by an affected person themselves. It gets to the heart of what the exhibition shows: people with disabilities should not have to adapt, but rather society must create conditions that enable genuine participation.
insieme Switzerland is the umbrella organization of parents’ associations for people with intellectual disabilities.
