Sports at Special Olympics

Sports for everyone – all year round
Special Olympics promotes exercise, training and competition opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities – locally, nationally and internationally. Every year, more than 70 competitions take place in over 20 sports throughout Switzerland – supplemented by Regional Games, National Games and international highlights such as the World Games.

Sports Philosophy

Fair chance of success for all
Sport strengthens body, mind, and community. Through fair competitions in homogeneous performance groups, we continuously foster progress, self-confidence, and joy of life. Participants of all performance levels have the opportunity to develop further – thanks to clear criteria, regular training, and fair classification. Those who participate give their best and are recognized for it.

Unified Sports

Active Together
In Unified Sports®, people with and without disabilities participate in sports together – in training and competitions. Depending on the goal and level, there are three models: competitive, development-oriented, or recreation-oriented.
