Sailing

Sailing has been an official sport of Special Olympics Switzerland since 2014. This sport is characterized by the interplay of wind, waves, and technique, requiring coordination and team spirit. In Switzerland, Sailing is offered exclusively as Unified Sports®.

Competition Format

  • Of the five possible levels as per regulations, Levels 1 and 2 are currently mainly practiced in Switzerland. During training, Level 3 is even sailed in some instances.
  • 2-person Unified Sports® crew: One athlete with a Unified Partner.
At Level 1, the athletes are responsible for handling the foresheets.
At Level 2, the athletes assume full responsibility for steering during the entire regatta from start to crossing the finish line.
  • The competitions usually consist of several regattas.

Special Olympics Switzerland is also invited to international competitions and World Games. We forward invitations to international events to athletes and sports groups who are active with us. Further information can be found under International Competitions and World Games.
