The Teaching Triathlete

How a Teacher Imparts much more than Knowledge – or Lucian Hofstetter’s Highly Successful Running Challenge

Sports enthusiast, teacher, and triathlete Lucian Hofstetter made a strong statement in December 2024: On December 1st, he ran 1 kilometer – and added another one each day. His goal: to collect donations for the 39 Special Olympics Switzerland athletes who participated in the World Winter Games Turin 2025 – and at the same time make a clear statement for an inclusive society.

Lucian actively involved his students, organized community runs, and brought Special Olympics athletes directly into the classroom. There, the young people experienced firsthand what true inclusion means – and that sport unites.

His commitment inspired many: Friends, fans, school classes, and sponsors supported him – by running or with generous kilometer donations. In the end, it was far more than an athletic achievement: It was a movement for more togetherness.

Almost 40,000 Swiss Francs Were Raised this Way. Many Thanks to Lucian and Everyone who Supported this Great Challenge.

WHO IS LUCIAN

Lucian Hofstetter is multi-faceted: Father, husband, teacher, triathlete – in that order and priority. Promoting social skills is very important to him, which is why he actively involved his school in the project. He was aware from the beginning that this project would push him to his limits – and yet he said: “Even if this project pushes me to my limits, I will be able to inspire and bring many people along. That is what drives me.”
