The Special Olympics Switzerland modules are public courses aimed at coaches, officials, organizers, and anyone interested in learning more about how Special Olympics competitions work.
The aim of the modules is to provide a solid understanding of the process, structure, and special features of Special Olympics competitions. This knowledge helps everyone involved to make training with people with intellectual disabilities more targeted and effective.
The Focus is on the Following Key Areas:
- The coaches gain a better understanding of Special Olympics and our sports philosophy.
- You understand the needs of people with intellectual disabilities
- They are optimally prepared for Special Olympics competitions and Games
Course Offerings
The Special Olympics Switzerland course offering includes three modules. The two modules “Introduction Module” and “Coach Module” lead to the Basic Course Certificate.

Introduction Module
The Introduction Module provides an initial overview of the fields of activity and the Special Olympics movement and forms the basis for the other course offerings.
Soon, we will offer the introductory module as an online module.

Coach module
The Coach Module is aimed at coaches, Sport Officials, and organizers who want to understand how Special Olympics competitions work.

Sports Module
The Sports Module is aimed at individuals who want to train or support athletes with intellectual disabilities in a specific sport.
Roles at Special Olympics Switzerland
At Special Olympics Switzerland, there are many ways to get involved in sports for people with intellectual disabilities and gain enriching experiences. Whether as a coach, Sport Coach, Sport Official, or Technical Coordinator, each of these roles helps to support and encourage athletes on their journey and celebrate successes together. In our training courses, we provide the necessary knowledge to become part of the Special Olympics movement with competence, heart, and joy.

Recognition of Youth+Sport and Sport+Handicap EDUCATION
The “Sport” module of Special Olympics is recognized by Sport+Handicap EDUCATION and Youth+Sport as an advanced training course. To receive J+S recognition, the participant must have a J+S leader recognition “Youth Sport” in any sport or have completed the module “Sport and Handicap Basics.”
Interdisciplinary Module “Sports and Handicap Fundamentals” J+S
Through the interdisciplinary module “Sports and Handicap Fundamentals”, J+S leaders, respectively coaches, can further their education in the subject and gain confidence for implementation in daily training.
Using practical examples, learning aids, and information on the topic, the courses show what needs to be considered in a J+S activity with a diverse group. The successfully completed module grants the additional recognition “Sports and Handicap”.
Special Olympics recommends participation in this module.
