The Fairytale of Malmö

Swiss delegation marches at night with national banner

51 people, five sports and countless special moments: From September 2 to 6, a large Swiss delegation represented Special Olympics Switzerland at the Sweden Invitational Games 2026 in Malmö.

In Swimming, Floorball, Football, Table Tennis and Golf, our athletes gave their all and celebrated strong performances. They returned to Switzerland with numerous medals in their bags. Just as valuable, though, were the encounters, the team spirit and the shared experiences beyond the competition venues.

What made Malmö so special for our team? Andreas Büchel, one of the delegation coaches, puts it this way: “The days in Malmö were far more than just a sporting competition and once again showed what makes Special Olympics so special: sporting ambition, emotions, new encounters and tremendous solidarity. Seeing how our athletes surpassed themselves and how the various Swiss sports groups increasingly became one team—these are exactly the moments that make this adventure unforgettable for me as a coach too.”

The full event report contains all the results, stories and voices of the coaches.
