74 individuals become one team with a common goal: Santiago 2027. During the first delegation camp, the Swiss athletes, coaches, and staff members got to know each other, made initial preparations, and together laid the foundation for their journey to the Special Olympics World Summer Games.
The anticipation was palpable, curiosity was high, and the first encounters were full of energy. For the 42 athletes as well as the 32 coaches and staff members, a special adventure began with the first delegation camp. In October 2027, they will represent Switzerland together at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Santiago de Chile.
Getting to know each other, sharing information, and growing together: The focus of the first camp was on getting to know one another. The athletes and coaches from ten different sports had the opportunity to make initial contacts and grow together as a delegation. In addition, there was much to do: participants received important information about the World Games, local conditions, and sports regulations. Measurements were taken for the official delegation kit, team photos were taken, and film recordings were created for social media.
Well prepared for the great adventure: The World Games are a sporting highlight, but they also bring numerous challenges. A dense competition schedule, a different language, unfamiliar climatic conditions, the time difference, and many new impressions demand a great deal from our athletes.
That is why preparation begins long before the first competition. In the coming months, the athletes will be supported individually and encouraged both athletically and mentally with targeted training plans. In September 2027, the team will meet for a second delegation camp, where the focus will be on athletic preparation.
