Purpose
Special Olympics competitions are planned, led, and implemented by the Sport Official in accordance with the Special Olympics sports philosophy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A Sport Official is responsible for the athletic and technical leadership of a competition in a specific sport. They adhere to the guidelines and regulations of Special Olympics and work closely with the Technical Coordinator (TC=person responsible for the development of a sport in Switzerland) or with the Sport Coordinator of SOSWI (SC=SOSWI employee).
During the competition, the Sport Official has the following tasks:
He represents Special Olympics
In consultation with the TC or SC, he decides how many volunteers are needed in the sports area (Officials, referees, staff, jury, etc.) and informs the local organizing committee of the number. On the day of the competition, the Sport Official welcomes and briefs these volunteers.
He plans and leads the sports modules in his sport.
In consultation with the TC or SC, he determines which competition materials (balls, timers, medals, etc.) will be needed and communicates this to the OC. On the day of the competition, he checks the material and prepares it accordingly.
On site, he informs the coaches / head coaches and the judges about the competition procedure and any rule adjustments.
The Sport Official carries out the divisioning and makes the corresponding classifications into performance categories.
Ensures that the competitions are carried out in accordance with the Special Olympics regulations.
Handles any protests from coaches or intervenes in conflicts.
After the competition, he creates the ranking lists and transmits them to the Medal Crew and to SOSWI in good time.
Requirements
The Sport Official is open and communicative
Knows the Special Olympics sports philosophy and has already participated in SOSWI competitions
Knows the regulations of the respective sport
Has a sports-related education
Ideally has experience in organizing sports events
Has experience in dealing with people with intellectual disabilities
Speaks two national languages
