Snowshoeing has been an official sport at Special Olympics since 2017. It is the most easily accessible winter sport and is suitable for beginners who like to exercise outdoors but are not familiar with gliding on snow.
Snowshoeing at Special Olympics is not the classic snowshoe hike, but a competitive sport with sprint and long-distance races – similar to Athletics.
Competition Format
- Competitions take place over distances from 50m to 1600m. In addition, there are various relay competitions.
- Due to the small number of participants, competitions in Switzerland often take place at the same venue and parallel to Cross Country Skiing.
Special Olympics Switzerland is also invited to international competitions and World Games. We forward invitations to international events to athletes and sports groups who are active with us. Further information can be found under International Competitions and World Games.
